On 24 April 2026, Mikael Englund, MSc (Biology), MSc (Technology), and MBA, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Advances in integrative moth taxonomy” at the University of Helsinki, within the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences. The dissertation focuses on geometrid moths and represents a significant contribution to the field of integrative taxonomy, combining modern analytical approaches with classical systematics to improve species delimitation and understanding of biodiversity.

The public examination was live streamed, allowing a broad international audience to follow the event. The appointed opponent was Sei-Woong Choi from Mokpo National University (Muan, Korea), and the custos was Johanna Mappes.
